HARTFORD — Most people who testify on a bill at the Capitol would be ecstatic to pull the first speaking position from a lottery, but that very outcome was Joanie Masot’s biggest fear.
Masot is a recovering gambling addict, and Thursday she joined opponents of a proposed gaming expansion to share how her problem has affected her life to this day.
“I could have wasted 12 years of my recovery by reaching into that box, because I know me, and I know my gambling addiction. ... If I had pulled the number 1, I was a winner,” said Masot, a Plainville resident and a member of Advocacy Unlimited.
