Plainridge conducted an ILLEGAL RAFFLE for years, yet the Attorney General, Martha 'Always Running for Higher Office' Coakley refused to commit anything to writing.

The Gam[bl]ing Commission was aware of Sticky Fingers Piontkowski's shenanigans in April, yet allowed the town to negotiate a Host Community Agreement in BAD FAITH, announcing the crime only before the community vote.

Did the AG investigate?
Who was cheated? Who was short-changed? Who else knew?

Who is Martha protecting?

Revenue Flooding Across Border!

Listen! Do you hear Beacon Hill legislators and political hacks or even the Boston Herald screaming about revenue flooding across the state border?

Boston-centric officials have allowed East Boston to become such a Hell Hole of traffic congestion, most folks in the Commonwealth are forced to travel from airports in neighboring states.

Aren't airports supposed to be 'economic development'? Job creators? Why is no one promoting diverting air traffic to Worcester?

Without the phony Buzz Words and overstated promises provided by the Gambling Industry, the hacks ignore this one.

Why is the Boston Herald ignoring the revenue flow in this one, after cheer leading for taxpayer subsidized Gambling on the pretense of 'revenues flooding across the borders'?

Instead, Massachusetts taxpayers are threatened by Senator Petrucelli's + $500 MILLION Suffolk Downs Folly that will be as unsuccessful as the Big Dig. Those charitable contributions to Senator Petrucelli and Mayor Tom Menino sure clouded their judgment.

Not known for heavy lifting or deep thought, the Boston Herald missed the real issue!

More than half the administrators at the state’s money-bleeding Worcester Regional Airport raked in six-figure pay last year — even as the taxpayer-funded terminal continues to sit nearly empty, a Herald payroll review found.

The Central Massachusetts airport, which Massport officials estimated operates at a $4 million annual loss, paid more than $100,000 to four of its seven administrators last year, according to records obtained by the Herald through a public records request.

Massport also paid six security officers, eight maintenance workers and three on-call snow removal workers to work at the Worcester airport, which the Herald first reported last year has become a virtual ghost town after the one commercial airline serving Worcester — Direct Air — suspended flights about a year ago.

Massport is required to maintain the Federal Aviation Administration’s staffing requirements in Worcester in order to be considered for commercial service, according to agency spokesman Matthew Brelis.

“When Massport took ownership of the airport in July 2010, we did so taking a long view. Hundreds of thousands of passengers used the airport in the 1990s and more than 100,000 used it in 2011,” Brelis said. “No one is building new airports, and Worcester Regional Airport is a critical piece of infrastructure for Central Massachusetts and must be kept open, operational and available for commercial service.”

Massport paid the city of Worcester $15 million for the airport in 2010, even though the facility had a long history of financial problems.

Massport is in discussions to bring a commercial airline to the Worcester terminals.

JetBlue has expressed interest in opening service in Worcester and has even visited the city on several occasions, but there is no deal in the works to make that happen yet, Brelis said.

Worcester logged more than 45,000 operations last year, but those were mainly for corporate and charter flights, according to Massport.

Brelis said Rectrix Aviation plans to build a 27,000 square foot, $5 million facility at the Worcester site, but the company provides maintenance to corporate planes — not commercial flights.

As for the rest of Massport’s salaries, four top staffers earned $200,000 or more while overtime helped pushed “fire control” employees and some port workers into six-figure territory.

Suffolk Downs’ chief operating officer welcomed the new oversight and said horse doping — which was recently the subject of congressional hearings — has not been an issue at the East Boston track.

“We’re very proud of our safety record here,” Chip Tuttle told the commission. “We take great pride in that.”

More than 3,000 horses died during racing or training from 2009-11 according to a New York Times survey of 29 racing states. Highlighted states do not require pre-race inspections of horses and do not perform post-mortem inspections on horses that die while racing or training.

Mashpee Wampanoags defend ties to land eyed for casino

TAUNTON -- The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe is defending historical claims to land in Taunton where it hopes to build a resort casino.

The Pocasset and two other Indian tribes questioned those ties Wednesday at a hearing held by the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs on the Mashpee’s land-into-trust application.

As part of its bid, the Cape Cod-based tribe must demonstrate historical ties to the 146-acre industrial site in East Taunton. Mashpee tribal chairman Cedric Cromwell said the tribe had villages there centuries ago when the area was known by its Indian name, Cohannet.

But representatives of the other tribes said there was no evidence the Mashpee had a significant presence in the territory.

The bureau’s review of the application could take up to two years and will include an environmental impact statement.

Crime, Corruption and the failure of the Boston Herald

When other sources reported on the sentencing of Edward "Buckles" Melise, they included his Gambling Addiction. Yet, the Boston Herald, ever the Casino Cheerleader for Beacon Hill, carefully omitted that inclusion. Curious!

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Edward "Buckles" Melise, a former Providence highway superintendent convicted during the 1980s of extorting money from snowplow operators, was sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison Monday for the possession and sale of hundreds of prescription oxycodone pills.

In imposing the sentence, Chief Judge Mary M. Lisi said in U.S. District Court, Providence, that "we're talking thousands of dollars" made off the sale of a "highly addictive poison."

The government had asked for a 52-month prison sentence while Melise's lawyer, John F. Cicilline, suggested 18 months. Judge Lisi said her sentencing decision -- a 46-month prison term -- took into account Melise's year spent on monitored home confinement in the case.

After he leaves prison, Melise will be on three years of supervised release, and receive counseling for gambling addiction.

The prosecution asked that a significant prison term be imposed, in part to serve as a warning to people who sell drugs and to protect the public. OxyContin was being sold at $37 to $38 per pill, the prosecution said.

While the defendant talked about dealing with a gambling addiction, the prosecution said he nevertheless sold OxyContin to feed others' addictions.

Cicilline told the judge that Melise has taken taken positive steps to make things right and to change his life. Melise has been in Gamblers Anonymous to deal with a gambling addiction Cicilline also noted many letters filed with the court on Melise's behalf. And he said that Melise came to terms with what happened and made a decision not to contest the government's case.

Melise pleaded guilty in June to four charges of possessing and selling hundreds of prescription oxycodone pills, under an agreement with prosecutors.

Cicilline questioned the reasonableness of the government's 52-month prison recommendation and said it was "disproportionate."

Ex-RI official gets 46 months on drug charges

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A former Providence highway superintendent who once served prison time for extortion has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison on federal drug charges.

Edward "Buckles" Melise of Johnston was also sentenced on Monday to three years of probation and ordered to undergo gambling addiction counseling.

The 60-year-old Melise pleaded guilty in June to charges of conspiracy to distribute hundreds of prescription painkiller oxycodone pills

His lawyer said in court that Melise has taken responsibility for his actions.

Melise, who served in the administration of former Mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci in the 1980s, served four years in prison after pleading guilty to extorting more than $64,000 from three contractors hired by the city to plow snow.
