Stealing results in jail time
WATERBURY — A former secretary accused of stealing about $1 million from a local law firm was sentenced to more than five years in prison Wednesday and was ordered to pay back more than $600,000.
Supporters of 48-year-old Barbara Kalpin said a gambling addiction drove her to embezzle the money, but a judge said there had to be an appropriate punishment for what he described as "relentless" stealing over the course of years.
