Ohio: Dimora trial continues

Jimmy Dimora asked if he'll be at the new Cleveland casino in May
Russo's testimony done, no prison until June

AKRON, Ohio - Media members peppered Jimmy Dimora with questions as he left federal court late Wednesday afternoon about the testimony against him by his former gambling buddy and political ally, Frank Russo.

NewsChannel5's Paul Kiska asked Dimora what it was like to face Russo in court. Dimora kept walking away from the courthouse and said nothing. Russo testified it was difficult for him to face Dimora and co-defendant Michael Gabor.

Russo affirmed all the prosecution's claims that Dimora was corrupt and accepted bribes for personal enrichment, while using his influence as a public official to benefit those who allegedly bribed him with cash, trips, home improvements, and visits with escorts.

Dimora and Gabor maintain their innocence on all charges.

Russo's two days of testimony ended with Gabor's attorney asking Russo when he will go to prison. Russo replied June at the earliest. Following his testimony in this case, he said will give testimony in another trial scheduled for June.

June is also the month Russo's son, Vince, is expected to be released from federal prison.

Vince Russo pleaded guilty to bribery and other charges involving his business, VinCore LLC. His father testified Dimora helped his son get clients for the consulting business, including 1-888-OHIO-COMP.

Under cross examination Wednesday, Russo also testified he decided to enter a guilty plea to protect Vince from more charges, and also to protect his three daughters and partner from any scrutiny.

Then, Russo's testimony was done, and the men who once played against each other in card games left court and left the jury to eventually declare the winner.

Dimora, who is known to enjoy gambling, also was asked outside of court if he had plans to visit the new Horseshoe Casino when it opens in Cleveland in May. The former political powerhouse had no comment. Gabor turned back towards the person who asked the question, but he also had no comment.

Court resumes Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. Federal prosecutors have not said who will be the next witness called to the stand.
