We are holding a statewide conference call to discuss our Massachusetts
public education effort on casinos for this fall on Wednesday, 9/10 at 7:30pm.
The meeting will last no more than one hour. You are encouraged to join the
call.
Many of you, including myself, are volunteering in some way with the casino
repeal political campaign and if so, I encourage you to keep doing so. The
mission of SPG's Massachusetts education effort has two elements:
1) To persuasively present the evidence that the public policy of
government-sponsored casinos is dishonest, harmful to citizens and has
contributed to the unfairness and inequality of opportunity in our society;
2) After being presented with this evidence, to bring people face to face
with the question of "Is this who we are? Is this who you are?"
We are planning several actions this fall to help achieve this mission. We
will be placing a particular emphasis on the "product" that lies at the center
of the casino business, the slot machine, and the impact of government-sponsored
casinos on children. If you want to participate in this education effort, or
have ideas for actions you want to drive forward, please join on Wednesday.
For the conference call number information, please email me in advance with your
name, address and phone and I'll email it to you. If you are unable to
sacrifice the time but want to participate,
then please make a tax-deductible contribution as
generous as you can to support SPG's MA education effort today.
I will be working from our Lawrence office for most of the next nine weeks so
if you want to meet up in person or talk by phone, contact me. You can email me
above or call me directly at our Massachusetts office (978) 683-4339. Our
address is 60 Island Street, Fourth Floor, Lawrence, MA 01840.
Like many of you, I collected over 1500 signatures last fall and this spring
and also donated a good deal of my own money to the signature drive. So please
fully invest yourself into
the casino repeal political campaign in
the few short weeks ahead. And if you want to be a part of our public education
campaign, I look forward to talking with you in the next few days and working as
part of a team with some of the best people each of us we'll ever know.
Thanks.
Les
