Pittsburgh Tribune - July 1, 2014, - Trouble outside Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh leads to vehicle crash on Route 65 in Sewickley
Pittsburgh police are investigating an attempted robbery outside Rivers Casino on Tuesday that led to a two-vehicle crash on Route 65 in Sewickley, authorities said.
Someone reported the attempted robbery at 11:06 a.m., Pittsburgh public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said.
Two vehicles involved in the robbery — a Mercedes and a Camaro — sped on Route 65, with one apparently chasing the other, she said. The driver of the Camaro crashed into another vehicle that wasn't involved in the robbery, she said.
Police took the driver of the Camaro in for questioning.
Police also questioned two men from the Mercedes, Toler said. Officers recovered cash, but Toler would not say how much.
“We're still trying to get to the truth of the matter,” she said.
“We can't really determine right now what actually happened here,” Pittsburgh police Sgt. William English said.
Three lanes of Route 65 reopened about 2:30 p.m. Firefighters earlier in the day directed traffic to use one northbound lane of Route 65, while northbound traffic was at a standstill.
