Excerpts below from a lengthy article about the sales pitches make REPEAL THE CASINO DEAL that much more sensible.
Steve Wynn has been booted from every other community he attempted to invade, squeezed out of Florida, unwanted in Connecticut, unwanted in Pennsylvania, his anti-union stance got him tossed from New York and he previously salivated over a South Boston site.
Revere, Everett casino developers make pitches
Wynn described the multiple developers as a "a coordination nightmare," and suggested that Mohegan was more interested in protecting its casino in Connecticut, where he said the house pays no taxes on table games."
We don’t give a damn about Connecticut," Wynn said. Speaking with reporters later, he said, "Mohegan Sun will do anything other than have to compete with us. They care about Connecticut where they pay a zero tax on tables. Do you get that?" He said, "All the rest of this is pretty transparent. We’re their worst nightmare."
"All of this three-ring circus going on since November fifth just gives us more fodder for the statewide appeal effort," said Celeste Myers, of No Eastie Casino. Activists will need to convince the Supreme Judicial Court that its proposed ballot question is ballot eligible before they can continue seeking to repeal the 2011 gaming law. Myers told the News Service she is helping to vote down the measure in Revere and is "outraged we’re even at this point."
Both prospective developers have seen earlier plans dashed in an election. Wynn sought to build in Foxborough before a slate of anti-casino pols was elected to the select board. Mohegan joined with Suffolk only after its plans for a casino in Palmer were rejected by voters there in November.
