I'm writing a quick update to let you know the Christmas Eve morning attempt by some in the Legislature to change the state's casino ATM law has failed for now. The new legislative session began today. Many of you contacted your legislators and informed others through your social media, blog posts and emails. Your effort to exercise your power produced results, including an editorial from The Boston Globe. Here is The Globe story that ran on New Year's Day describing the defeat of the amendment. Government-sponsored gambling (casinos and state lotteries) is a defining issue about who we are as a people because it is dishonest, financially damaging to citizens and contributes to the unfairness and inequality of opportunity in our society today. The question is not if this public policy will be phased out, or at least drastically reformed, but when. It’s inevitable. If you support our mission and work, please become a member of Stop Predatory Gambling today. Thanks for your efforts last week. Keep pushing.
