Dear
Friends and Neighbors,
As we
told you last week, this coming Tuesday, March 25 at 4 pm, the Massachusetts
Gaming Commission will hold a public hearing for the Revere proposal at the
Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The MGC is the regulatory body that
will decide between an Eastern Massachusetts casino in Everett or Revere/East
Boston. We cannot emphasize enough how important it is that you attend
the meeting to let the MGC know loud and clear that it should stand behind our
"NO" vote on November 5, 2013, and that a casino proposal for Suffolk Downs
is ILLEGAL. Anyone in the area -- not just East Boston or Revere -- who is
opposed to the Revere casino proposal is invited to attend, so we encourage you
to email this to five friends and ask them to come. Here are the details:
What: Mass Gaming Commission public hearing for Revere casino
proposal
When: Tuesday, March 25 at 4
p.m. (plan to
arrive at 3:30)
Where: Boston Convention and
Exhibition Center, 415 Summer St., Boston, Room 102B
The Commission has promised 5 minutes of speaking time to anyone who signs
up in advance through this email form, and we encourage any who
are comfortable to speak in opposition to the Mohegan to make a public comment
before the Commission on Tuesday.
We know Mohegan/Suffolk Downs will have their
supporters out in force, so your participation is crucial! If you are interested in attending, would you please let
us know by hitting reply or sending us an email at noeastiecasino@gmail.com? When you RSVP, let us know
if you (a) need or (b) can provide a ride to the Convention Center on
Tuesday.
***To prep for the hearing, we will be meeting
on Monday, March 24 at 7
p.m. at the Central Assembly of God Church at 50 Bennington St.,
East Boston (near Central Square). If you plan to attend the hearing, please
join to go over roles and responsibilties for Tuesday. Please call Dave Searles
at 617-913-3396 if you need directions or have any questions.***
Finally, we'd like to highlight two important news items that happened
Wednesday:
"Speaking specifically of the $1.3 billion Mohegan Sun
proposal, the mayor argues the developer 'accesses the project through the City
of Boston,' and that development is 'intimately related and cannot be
disentangled from the Suffolk Downs site,' most of which lies on the East Boston
side of the Boston-Revere city line."
These new data are certainly encouraging as we look toward repealing the gambling legislation in November, suggesting that the law could very well be overturned by voters should it appear on a ballot. Please click on the image to the right to find out more about the repeal effort and to make a donation!
Again, please let us know if you can come Tuesday, and
thank you for your continued
support!
