18 DAYS TO THE PLAINVILLE SLOTS REFERENDUM!

Reason #18 to VOTE NO SLOTS:
Saturation: With a slots parlor and 3 casinos, no one in Massachusetts will live further than 50 miles from at least one, sometimes two or three, gambling sites. Right now Plainville is within 50 miles of two facilities.

There is currently slots gambling just 18 miles from Plainridge at Twin River, which has 4,700 slot machines, tables, and entertainment. Newport Grand, Foxwoods, and Mohegan Sun are all less than an hour away. There are proposals for casinos in Taunton and Milford, either of which would have more than double the slot machines of Plainridge at what promise to be "First Class Destination" resorts.

With so many Massachusetts and RI venues competing for the same gambling dollars, revenue projections are bound to be overly optimistic. Moreover, in RI, NJ, Delaware, and in other saturated markets, the State has been called upon to bail out casinos and racetrack casinos with tax breaks and handouts from the public coffers (including Twin River in RI and Revel Casino in NJ, and 3 racetrack casinos in Delaware).

Online gaming is legal in Nevada, NJ and will be legalized elsewhere. Plainridge could soon follow in the path of "brick and mortar" stores like Barnes & Noble, Circuit City and others that have been decimated by the Internet.
