Reasons to oppose Milford casino

Cassidy: Reasons to oppose Milford casino
Posted May 13, 2013

I am 17 years old and I live in Holliston, Massachusetts. I would like to share some reasons why I am opposed to the Milford casino.

According to casinofreemilford.com, the new casino would be serving food and drinks 24 hours a day. This would cause a lot more traffic into the casino at all hours of the day. It has been shown from other new casinos that crime and DUI rates would go up near the casino. The crime rate slowly goes up over time after a casino is built.

I hate the thought of people going to the casino, believing they will be rich when they walk out, only to find that they wasted money they should have used to buy necessities. Many people believe that a casino will help the economy but this is not the case. The people who visit the casino only need what is in the casino such as food, entertainment, and a hotel. Businesses outside the casino are not affected.

Research showed that the unemployment rate actually went down after building a casino in Connecticut. Casinos also impact the value of property in the area. A home that is located close to a casino is valued 20 percent lower than a house that is not located near a casino! I urge you to visit caninofreemilford.com and sign the petition against the casino. There are too many people that could be negatively affected by this casino, and we can help these people by opposing the casino.
