Casino gambling in Kentucky is successfully opposed
by Ray Poirier
Efforts to get casino gambling in Kentucky have been successfully opposed by church leaders in that state and the opposition will continue. That’s the most recent take from a nationally known evangelist.
The Rev. Jeff Fugate of Lexington, pastor of Clays Mill Road Baptist Church, warns that the expansion of gambling in the Bluegrass State will only lead to broken homes for Kentucky families and that it shouldn’t even be considered by state lawmakers.
Fugate was responding to comments from Gov. Steve Beshear’s inaugural speech saying that he planned to push for a constitutional amendment to allow more kinds of gambling in Kentucky.
"We’ve got plans to fight against it," said Fugate. "And we believe that, if legislators are going to vote for it in the majority of districts, they’ll be gambling their seat away," he added.
