Casinos and Racinos Are a Bad Bet

From our friends at No Plainville Racino:

Casinos and Racinos Are a Bad Bet:
R.I. allows Newport Grand to keep a bigger share of video lottery terminal revenue http://narragansett.patch.com/groups/politics-and-elections/p/assembly-approves-2014-state-budget_7cfdce05

Also included is a proposal … to temporarily allow Newport Grand to keep a bigger share of video lottery terminal revenue generated there. The venue sought an additional $1.5 million for each of the next two years as a means to stay afloat as Twin River in Lincoln begins table games and casino plans in Massachusetts develop; legislators trimmed the proposal to $1 million a year. Newport voters last year rejected table games at that venue.

...the restructuring deal would cut the tribe's total debt to about $1.7 billion and allow it to extend due dates on loans and bonds.
All this while they're trying to land a casino deal in Massachusetts!

Antoine Walker made headlines last week by declaring on Twitter that he was interested in coaching the Celticshttp://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2013/06/29/two-sides-doc-rivers-exit-celtics-coach/KH8clSiWUtWqZ1SQYVSRwI/story.html

...and that declaration has turned into a desire to return to the NBA in any capacity. Walker is not delusional. He understands that no NBA team, including the Celtics, is likely to offer even an interview for a head coaching job because of his checkered past.
Walker has been hampered by financial troubles since his NBA career ended in 2008, blowing all of the estimated $108 million he earned. After Las Vegas casinos began pursuing him to pay for markers, some totaling nearly $1 million, he filed for bankruptcy in 2010, and has reached a settlement with his creditors.

Solar-panel company on verge of endhttp://www.toledoblade.com/Energy/2013/06/30/Solar-panel-company-on-verge-of-end.html

Soon after the company’s founding, issues began to emerge. In its second year of operation, executives began paying themselves millions. They also freely used funds for things such as sporting events, a birthday party, and ATMs in casinos.
