Political contributions from the state's nine racinos were spread around the state and across party lines
The New York Gaming Association, which represents the racinos, spent more than $172,000 on political contributions in the last six months, including more than $7,000 to Capital Region state legislators, according to the July 2013 campaign finance filing with the state Board of Elections.
A full list of local recipients and a full list of expenditures by NYGA are available below.
Contributions in the Capital Region appear to follow a formula, with members of the Assembly receiving between $250 and $500 and members of the state Senate getting about $1,000. Democratic Assembly members Phil Steck, D-Colonie, Angelo Santabarbara, D-Rotterdam, John McDonald, D-Cohoes, and Patricia Fahy, D-Albany, didn't receive money from NYGA.
Major recipients of money from NYGA tend to be political players, like party leaders, or be connected to gambling, like with a legislation district near or a racino or serve on a gaming committee in the state Legislature.
Funding for NYGA's political contributions comes from its members, including $13,545 from the Saratoga Casino & Raceway's Saratoga Gaming Resources LLC.
