Russ: Don’t trust casino developer’s promises
MILFORD —
Don’t trust casino developer’s promises
It is difficult to fathom how Mr. Nunes can complain to the town of Milford considering Foxwoods’ late arrival on the casino bidding scene (“Developer defends changes,” July 12). Possibly he, as others in the pro-casino camp, has failed to appreciate that Milford did not invite him here nor did we actively pursue any other casino developers. There are a significant number of Milford residents that do not “want to go through with this” and could not care less that Foxwoods-Milford is behind its competition on the state level. Due diligence should have occurred when the proposal first surfaced in 2009, and should have been offered to the residents as a referendum at that time. Much effort and money could have been saved were we given the opportunity to say no back then.
Mr. Nunes indicated at the 7/10 informational meeting that he was from the Bolton, Ma. area and is familiar with this location. What is truly interesting however is that Bolton, Ma was not selected as a casino site, possibly because they would not hear of it? Or could the Milford site be more attractive due to our existing attributes such as a water system, sewer system, road system, electrical system, etc., all of which we need and some of which are already critically marginal.
No sir, we will not work with you when at best the outcome of your venture remains a huge unknown for the residents of Milford. Your promise of big money for our simply holding the door open is just that, a promise.
