Springfield: MGM - 2 YEARS ONLY?

What's the DEAL?

Fyi, here's article #10 from the MGM/Springfield Host Community Agreement which specifies that MGM only promises to be here for two (2) years after opening:

10. MGM Guaranty and Keepwell Agreement
Developer’s parent company, MGM Resorts International, must unconditionally guarantee to the City, for a period of two years following opening, all of Developer’s obligations to the City under the Agreement and must fund all amounts necessary to operate and maintain the project during such two-year period.

Thanks for a great turnout for today's STAND OUT! We got lots of support from passing motorists, and only one negative person who asked if we'd been to the So. End lately. Yes, sir, my bank is there and I walk downtown on a weekly basis. That's WHY I don't want a casino down there. The South End was the nicest part of downtown architecturally until the tornado hit. And don't tell me the tornado was an act of God to make way for the casino, as MGM CEO Murren implied at the Pancake Breakfast. We don't need an out-of-town multinational company swooping in on us for two years and then leaving town when the revenues don't pan out.
