Mass. town rejects slots parlor bid
Eagle Tribune (North Andover, Mass.) / July 2, 2013
SALISBURY, Mass. (AP) — A Maryland company interested in developing a slots parlor in Massachusetts is still looking for a place where they can build.
Selectmen in Salisbury voted 3-2 on Monday night against entering into negotiations with the Cordish Companies.
The Eagle-Tribune (http://bit.ly/17EmObT ) reports that the vote followed an elaborate presentation by the firm of its proposal, which included a 120,000-square-foot slots parlor, three restaurants, a theater and a parking garage.
Selectmen who voted against talks with the company cited the short time frame involved in reaching an agreement and scheduling a referendum. Applicants have until Oct. 4 to apply to the Massachusetts gambling commission for the single slot parlor license available under the state’s 2011 casino law.
Officials in Boxborough previously rejected Cordish’s bid to locate there.
