Las Vegas police confirmed Thursday they are investigating the death of a Las Vegas woman who either fell or jumped 35 stories at the MGM Grand on Tuesday.

Sgt. John Sheahan said it's too early in the investigation to determine whether the woman fell accidentally or committed suicide.

The Clark County coroner's office identified the woman as 46-year-old Lisa Demaria. The cause and manner of Demaria's death are pending.

According to the coroner's office, Demaria was pronounced dead at 5 p.m. Police records from Tuesday indicate they were called to the MGM Grand at 3:24 p.m.

Woman Falls to Death; Plagued by Fraud Charge

LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police and the Secretary of State are investigating a woman who fell to her death from the 35th floor of the Signature MGM Grand Hotel on Tuesday.

The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the woman as Lisa DeMaria, 46.

DeMaria is listed as the owner of Ocean Pictures, Inc. According to Secretary of State records, the company was founded in 2006.

According to a search warrant issued after the woman's death, the state's securities division was investigating DeMaria of securities fraud, preventing or dissuading a victim or witness from commencing prosecution or causing arrest, destroying evidence and failure to appear.

The warrant identifies the woman as Elizabeth Victoria DeMaria, also known as Lisa Victoria. In it, the warrant seeks to seize documents related to The Vegas Channel or Luxury Lifestyles of Las Vegas.

The warrant also sought to seize her laptop, which according to the warrant, was found at the place of her death and was in the coroner's possession.

DeMaria had 22 felony charges pending against her beginning in 2005, including 15 counts of fraudulent sale of security. She was also facing six counts of theft and one count of securities fraud of an older person.

According to a press release issued by Secretary of State Ross Miller, DeMaria was arrested in March of 2010 for bilking almost $200,000 out of nine people who invested in The Vegas Channel venture, billed as a locally-themed channel. Investigators said she told the investors they would receive a return 10 times their investment in a 13-month period, or a return of 20 times their investment in 18 months.

She told investors the money would be used solely for the channel, but her bank records showed that she was depositing money into an account only she controlled under the Luxury Lifestyles of Las Vegas name.

Investigators said that more than $126,000 was withdrawn from the account and thousands spent at Mercedes Benz Finance and other retail purchases.

DeMaria's jury trial was scheduled to begin in January, but was cancelled. Court records are unclear why the trial was cancelled but three days later a bench warrant was issued for her arrest. Her next court date was scheduled for July 12 for a motion to exonerate bond.

Her official cause of death is not yet known.
