Instead of reasonable dialog, Plainville and Plainridge specialize in intimidation.
It's time for some respectful treatment, not just bullying.
"Intimidating racino
letters embarrassment to cause"
To the editor: Regarding Dale Bergevine's letter "Claim they didn't know strains credulity" (July 10):
I am writing this letter to kindly ask Dale Bergevine to refrain from attacking and attempting to intimidate Mary-Ann Greanier, Plainville residents, and anyone who may not hold the same opinions and beliefs that he has. I find his overbearing letters repulsive and extremely negative towards concerned individuals, including me, who only want the best for our town and its citizens.
I am very surprised that Gary Piontkowski has not asked Mr. Bergevine to refrain from using such heavy-handed words in an attempt to intimidate those of us who would like as much information as possible about the proposed slot parlor. We all need to better understand the impact the racino will have on Plainville and its citizens. If I were Mr. Piontkowski I'd be embarrassed to have such letters associated with my business.
I also attended many planning board meetings when Plainridge plans were being discussed. Despite many requests by those in the audience (not just Ms. Greanier), to hear real numbers regarding the impact of the development on the town as a whole, we were always told that speaking about a potential racino and its impact was inappropriate because the gambling bill had not been passed at the time.
Everyone at those meetings knew why the garage was being built and the planning board probably had the authority to request more information with regard to the effects a "potential" slot parlor would have on Plainville, but chose not to. That being the case, the only way concerned citizens and our selectmen will get the much-needed information, is by being diligent in our efforts to gather as much information as possible, from as many varied sources as needed, to make the best long-term decisions for our town.
