Gov. Patrick had no reason to settle Mashpee's land claim

Who goes to prison next? Hmmm.....

LETTER: Gov. Patrick had no reason to settle Mashpee's land claim
Posted Jul 16, 2012
There is no reason to settle any land claim today as the Supreme Court has made it clear that 200-year-old land claims disrupt the community and rule against them.

Of course, the Oneida and Cayuga tribes of New York State filed for trust status on lands purchased when they knew they were about to lose their land claims, but usually tribes file for trust status through annexation on additional lands after they are given land in a settlement.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe in Connecticut is a prime example. The only thing final in a final negotiated settllement is that the tribe never gives back what they take.

The only thing for sure is that the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe will try to take more and the lawsuits never stop. Communities that have tribes for neighbors often put money toward lawsuits in their annual budget.

Has Gov. Deval Patrick been bought? I think his only alleged defense could be that he is not the only one.
