Kill Both Casinos!

Casino-Free Philadelphia

By now you may have heard that the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced a November 15th deadline for applications for the second casino license in Philadelphia. In other words, the official process for building a second casino in Philadelphia has begun.

You can read more about in the Philadelphia Inquirer, and a little more in Plan Philly.

What does this mean for us, the people who would be saddled with another predatory casino? It means a call to action. It means we have an opportunity to kill both casinos.

A new casino means new allies, and more opportunities to expose the casino industry for what it is: an unconscionable way of making money off people suffering from gambling addiction; a parasitic bussiness that sucks money out of our local economy, killing jobs, and funnels it in the pockets of a few investors; an industry that destroys the lives of those who gamble, their families and friends, and their communities. An even bigger city-wide coalition will be impossible to ignore! To help out:
  • Help organize people in your community by setting up a meeting with representatives of Casino-Free Philadelphia, and your neighbors and community groups. Contact Casino-Free Philadelphia at info@casinofreephilly.org if you are interested in setting up a community meeting.
  • We're doing an Outreach and Impact Survey to learn more about the effects of Philadelphia's existing casino, SugarHouse. If you like talking to new people, and you're interested in this project, get in touch with Dan at dan@casinofreephilly.org.
  • Donate! Your donations are always greatly appreciated and tremendously helpful. Make a donation now.
You've shown in the past that fighting a multi-billion dollar industry and the politicians they've bought can be done successfully; but that fight succeeds only with everyone helping out. So please help however you can!

A Nutter Failure

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that "Mayor Nutter said he had been pushing for the license to stay in Philadelphia 'for some time' and was elated over the announcement the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board."

Nutter is just one example of what casino money can buy. The politicians in Harrisburg, and even our local "representatives" are not going to lead on this. It's up to us!

Thank you for all you have done in the past! Please join in this new, and ongoing, fight!
