The city announced Friday that it has reached a tentative agreement with Raynham Park to mitigate the impacts of a proposed slot parlor at the former dog track.

The agreement, subject to the approval of Taunton City Council, calls for the gambling facility to pay Taunton $200,000 a year in community impact fees, with the amount increasing by 2.5 percent annually after the fourth year.

“I am pleased that we have been able to reach a mitigation agreement with Raynham Park,” Mayor Thomas Hoye Jr. said. “Historically the relationship between the Carney family and the city of Taunton has been positive, with the dog track providing jobs for many of our residents. This project will breathe new life into the site and will be an employment provider to our region’s residents.”

Raynham Park owner George Carney has partnered with Pennsylvania-based Greenwood Racing in the proposal to build the Parx Raynham slot parlor.
