Don’t let Milford be the town that falls for empty promises

PASCISCIA:

"In East Boston, Palmer, and Foxborough – all across Massachusetts, the voters’ message is the same – nothing against casinos, we just don’t want one in our back yard. Don’t let Milford be the town that falls for empty promises."

Milford, let's NOT make this new neighbor regret his move to our community........

My wife and I are newlywed and new residents of Milford. When we first bought our house here, we were aware of the casino controversy, and chose to take a neutral stance, being new in town and uninformed. The more I think about it, the more I am against Foxwoods building in Milford.

Let me make my stance from my personal professional perspective. I work in property management in Boston, I’ve been in the business for almost 10 years, and generally I would say that construction of developments create jobs and promote neighborhoods and businesses. In the case of the casino, we’re not talking about a residential landlord that does criminal background checks on tenants or an office building that brings companies in to hire workers independently of the landlord, and we’re not talking about a family-friendly Disney resort.

We’re talking about a casino creating low paying jobs and attracting crime to an otherwise wonderful New England community.

While facilities jobs will be created like any other development, Foxwoods’ promises of job creation is a bit exaggerated, and the element of alcoholism, degenerate gamblers, drugs and prostitution are some of the things that casinos can attract. In East Boston, Palmer, and Foxborough – all across Massachusetts, the voters’ message is the same – nothing against casinos, we just don’t want one in our back yard. Don’t let Milford be the town that falls for empty promises. Let Everett have their casino, we don’t need one – I want to raise a family here.
