Associated Press - November 8, 2013 - DA says Pa. car dealer finance manager stole $37K
The former finance manager at a major Pittsburgh-area car dealership has been charged with stealing nearly $37,000 by doctoring checks written by people buying new and used cars....
The Allegheny County district attorney's office announced the charges Friday against 28-year-old Robert Heiser, of Bethel Park.
Detectives say Heiser stole the money to fund a gambling habit that has seen him lose $175,000 at Pittsburgh's Rivers Casino since August 2009.
Heiser allegedly stole the money by telling customers to leave blank the payee line on checks written to the dealership, because he planned to use a stamp to print Century III Chevrolet's name on them. Instead, Heiser wrote his own name on the blank line and either cashed the checks or deposited them into his own account.
Online court records don't list an attorney for Heiser.
