It would seem enthusiasm for casinos is flagging
November 09, 2013
Kevin Kennedy, chief development officer of Springfield, writes about the enthusiasm and praise Greater Springfield is heaping on the casino project there (“Springfield works toward rebirth with MGM resort,” Letters, Nov. 6). He is engaging in the fantasy and make-believe that MGM is noted for.
On Tuesday we saw two bordering towns, Longmeadow and West Springfield, vote to ask the Massachusetts Gaming Commission NOT to grant a license to Springfield.
Elsewhere, citizens in Palmer voted against a casino for their town.
Now we’re left to wonder about those in Springfield, who voted 58 percent to 42 percent in favor in the heat of July.

This whole thing is shaping up like a page from the “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” in which all the subjects tell the king what he wants to hear. Only Palmer, Longmeadow, West Springfield, and East Boston did not.
