Who knew House Speaker "Racino" DeLeo could provide such fodder for laughs?
The poor man has ignored the state's business and his job responsibilities and focused single-mindedly on rewarding wealthy investors in his district with anything their little greedy hearts desire in terms of Predatory Gambling.
24/7/365 FREE ALCOHOL?
With a wink and a nod, you got it! After all, what are a few more drunks on the road?
Loans to intoxicated losing patrons?
No problem!
And the list goes on.
Mr. "Racino" opposed any sensible controls, as he genuflected before the Slot Barn Vultures, proposing Mega Monsters in his district. Wouldn't want to inhibit the Cash Sucking Machines, would we?
Self exclusion barely passed the House as members bowed to their leader's opposition.
And so Mr. "Racino," the card, says with a straight face:
“Owners of these establishments are taking advantage of their patrons and scamming them out of money,’’ DeLeo said in a statement. “This is unacceptable, and I look forward to seeing this legislation passed into law.’’
Not to be outdone, Attorney General Martha Coakley played straight man to Mr. "Racino's" skit:
“These cybercafes are really cyber scams with no posted odds, minimum odds, or guarantee of payouts for patrons,’’ she said in a statement. “This bill makes certain that companies cannot skirt our laws.’’
The irony is not lost on the reporter:
While DeLeo is attempting to ban the cybercafes, he is also working behind the scenes with Senate President Therese Murray and Governor Deval Patrick on legislation to legalize casino gambling in Massachusetts.
The Three Musketeers of Predatory Gambling have been working 'behind the scenes' and behind closed doors for several years, having their egos stroked by lobbyists, allowing legislation to be dictated by the Gambling Industry and ignoring the costs and impacts to cities and towns.
