Lobbyist Pouncy Testifying in Alabama Gambling Trial
Reporter: Phillip Rawls
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- The first person who pleaded guilty in
Alabama's gambling corruption investigation is scheduled to return to the witness stand in federal court in Montgomery.
Country Crossing lobbyist Jennifer Pouncy testified Tuesday that she pleaded guilty to conspiracy in September because she knew she violated the law when she offered campaign contributions to state senators to secure their votes for pro-gambling legislation. Pouncy said she offered $2 million to Republican Sen. Jim Preuitt of Talladega and $100,000 to Democratic Sen. Larry Means of Attalla.
Prosecutor Steve Feaga says he expects to wrap up his questioning of Pouncy on Wednesday. Defense attorneys will start questioning her Thursday.
