Alabama gambling corruption trial week 6
By The Associated Press
Alabama's gambling corruption trial has
wrapped up its sixth week.
A casino lobbyist who pleaded guilty to bribery testified Friday
about three present and former senators who are among the nine
defendants.
Country Crossing casino lobbyist Jarrod Massey said another
lobbyist told him that former Senator Larry Means wanted $100,000
to vote for pro-gambling legislation. But Massey said he never
talked to Means about the money.
Massey said he routed $23,000 to Senator Harri Anne Smith's
congressional campaign in 2008 by lining up donors to contribute
money he paid them. Massey said the donations stemmed from her
support of Country Crossing, but he never disclosed his role to
Smith.
Massey said promises of campaign support were made to former
Senator Jim Preuitt for his vote, but none were delivered.
