The Salvation Army Seeks More Donations
Submitted by Natalie Cullen, Online Editor
The Salvation Army is pleading with the community to donate to its thrift stores to help keep its programs afloat.
The non-profit makes most of its money from its thrift stores but the economy has taken a toll. With fewer people buying new furniture or items for their homes they're not donating as much to the charity. Receipts from the thrift stores are down 50 percent from last year. Much of the money raised goes to The Salvation Army's addiction services for recovering alcohol, drug and gambling addicts. It takes a staggering $4 million a year to keep that program running but with some thrift stores down to almost bare walls all donations are needed.
The charity is asking that everyone around the valley to search through their homes for gently used items everything from furniture to clothing. They also have a big market for office supplies and furniture. If you have a donation big enough they'll come to your home to pick it up. If you've got a smaller donation you can drop it off at anyone of the seven thrift stores around the Las Vegas Valley. Call 649-2374 to arrange a pick up.
