The medical examiner has ruled a death inside a casino hotel room suspicious, saying further investigation needs to be done to determine the cause of death.
Police were called to the Showboat Casino-Hotel just after 5 p.m. when the 60-year-old New York man was found inside the ninth-floor room, where he had been staying, Sgt. Monica McMenamin said.
The medical examiner determined further investigation is needed in the case, McMenamin said.
During the investigation, police attempted to locate a woman seen earlier in the man's company. She has been arrested after it was found she had outstanding warrants, McMenamin said. The arrest is not related to the death.
She cooperated with police and answered their questions, McMenamin said.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit -- which investigates homicides -- has not been called in in the case, McMenamin said.
Detective Jerard Ingenito is investigating the case. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 609-347-5766.
