Wheeling Island Casino is betting that it will attract more gamblers by being more generous with players club points.
The West Virginia casino, where table-game revenues have dropped precipitously every year since 2009, this month accelerated point accumulation for table-game players. For years, the casino awarded one point for every $25 a player bet; starting March 1, the ratio dropped to $10 per point.
“The change makes us even more competitive,” says Kim Florence, the casino's senior director of marketing. “We thought it was the right thing to do.”
At Wheeling Island, each 100 points translates into $1 that can be used toward free play or on-site purchases of food, beverages, retail shops or hotel rooms.
