No Eastie Casino 9/23/2013 This Week - Starting Tonight! - We Need Boots on the Ground in East Boston! Can You Help? We're building an army of volunteers to help in a variety of ways as we educate neighbors get out the vote against a casino. Please consider the ways you can volunteer this week! Monday Night We are looking for 5-6 volunteers to assist in making buttons and putting together packets for the polls on Tuesday. Email Celeste Myers or call her at 617-913-3332 if you can help. Tuesday We are looking for 4 more volunteers with cars to help set up and tear down signs at the polls. We are also looking for 20 more volunteers to staff the polls Tuesday. [Note: This week, Suffolk Downs will be presenting at Eagle Hill Civic Association Meeting. We're looking for volunteers to hit the streets with a smiles and a stack of handouts in Eagle Hill, Jeffries Point, Orient Heights, Maverick and the Wood Island area. The Latest on the Campaign City Council to Vote Wed. on DateAs we've told you before, Suffolk Downs has requested November 5 - the date of the final municipal election - as the casino referendum date. The City Council is expected to vote on that date at a hearing Wednesday. YOU Raised Over $10,000 in 10 Days!If you haven't heard yet, WE DID IT - we hit (and surpassed) our goal of raising $10,000 in just 10 days! This was done with donations of every size, from all parts of the neighborhood and several surrounding communities, and with great sacrifice from many of you. For that, we are truly thankful and appreciative. The fundraising continues, however, until the battle is won -- so even if you didn't send in your donation during the Eastie Challenge, there's still time to do so! (click here to download a description of some of the ways your donations are helping us educate every East Boston voter and defeat the casino) Neighborhood Fundraising Challenge: The Final Tally Eagle Hill: 8 donors, $725 Jeffries Point: 7 donors, $1,900 Orient Heights: 4 donors, $450 Winthrop: 1 donor, $200 (This campaign has had > 100 donors, but most did not indicate that they'd like their donation to be applied toward the Neighborhood Challenge) As you can see, Eagle Hill won in terms of the # of donors, but Jeffries Point gave more overall. As promised, there will be a pizza party, but we think it's only fair that residents from both Eagle Hill and Jeffries Point enjoy a joint pizza party for their success in both raising money and raising participation.
