Atlantic City Casinos’ Revenue Falls 4.8% in August

Last month Atlantic City’s casino revenue fell by almost 5% as gamblers were more successful than usual at table games. The 12 casinos in the city took a combined total of $298.1 million, down 4.8% from August 2012.
Revenue from table games fell 10.5% from last year to $78.6 million, according to the state Division of Gaming Enforcement casinos did worse at table games this year than last. Slot machine revenue also fell; it was down 2.6% to $219.5 million.
In total nine casinos saw a drop in revenue during August. The hardest hit was Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City which saw revenues fall 18%. [now Caesars]
The Tropicana Casino and Resort saw revenues fall 17.8% while the Trump Plaza’s revenues fell 17.2%.
Other casinos which saw revenue fall include the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort (15.5%), the Showboat Casino Hotel (9.5%), Bally’s Atlantic City (9.3%) and the Golden Nugget Atlantic City (4.3%).
However, it wasn’t all bad news, The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa saw revenues rise 13.3% and the Resorts Casino hotel saw revenues rise 2.2%.
Atlantic City casinos have seen revenues fall for the last seven years, mainly due to increased competition from neighbouring states.
