No casino on Mount Tom

Please join with others by adding your name to oppose this wrong-headed decision by Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse [click on link below]:

No casino on Mount Tom

By Gerrit Stover (Contact)

To be delivered to: Alex Morse, Mayor of the City of Holyoke and Stephen Crosby, Chair, Massachusetts Gaming Commission

Petition Statement

Mount Tom is an irreplaceable natural and economic resource for all of the Connecticut River Valley. Please reject any and all inappropriate developments -- such as the two casino plans -- for this treasure.

Petition Background

Once again, Mount Tom -- not only an icon of the Connecticut River Valley but one of Massachusetts' most important natural areas -- is being treated as a potential site for intensive commercial development.

Multi-story, brightly-lit buildings and overwhelming traffic should never despoil this keystone of the area's landscape, outdoor recreation, wildlife corridor, and rare species habitat -- a decades-long focus of local, state, federal, and non-profit land conservation efforts.

Casinos are a blight on the landscape and a scourge to our citizens. A wasteful pastime that ruins families and creates hardships for many. Mt. Tom is irreplaceable and a recreational treasure that MUST be preserved for future generations. I grew up hiking, skiing and recreating on Mt. Tom and even though I live 5 hours away from my hometown of Holyoke, I still climb the mountain and enjoy its views and ambiance. I strongly urge the Mayor and citizens to Stop this Casino plan!
