The Mayor of Holyoke who was elected based upon his Casino Opposition...Oh! Wait!
His Casino Support....Then his Casino Oposition......
has finally experienced an exorcism....of sorts....
Perhaps you can only claim credit for generating a great deal of karmic energy
(since I haven't yet delivered the many, many petition signatures to the Mayor
or Commissioner Crosby -- though perhaps they caught wind of your protests).
Nevertheless, Mayor Alex Morse has come to his senses and decided AGAINST any
casino in Holyoke.
Please see his December 13th statement at:
www.scribd.com/doc/116733440/Alex-Morse-Dec-13-statement-on-Holyoke-casino-proposals
I
think credit is due the Mayor for taking the brave and embarassing step of
eating his words, and erasing his short-sighted (but blessedly short-lived)
turnaround. I hope you will thank him for his decision, and wish him the best
and offer to help in bringing real economic development to the beautiful City of
Holyoke: Development which enhances and does not destroy his community's (and
our region's) remarkable natural resources.
Now if we can only get those
communications towers removed, and finish off, once and for all, the idea that
any development, including commercial wind power, is appropriate for endangered
species habitat in one of the most scenic places in New England.
And
speaking of karma, the password for this petition referred to Terry Blunt.
Let's thank our late friend once again for working so hard and so long on
protecting and expanding the natural areas of Mount Tom and the Connecticut
River Valley. I am sure he'd be very relieved to see this latest threat
evaporate.
Bless you all, happy holidays, and keep your voices raised for
Mother Earth!
Gerrit Stover, Northampton
Is there any reason why government can't make decisions based on FACTS? Based on the Community Destruction that accompanies Predatory Gambling? the increased crime? the family destruction? the destruction of local businesses? low wage jobs?
Thank you Mayor Morse for waking up!
