Online Casino Blackmailers Jailed in U.K.
While on the internet there is always a chance that there will be some sort of hacking going on. Therefore it’s a good idea to have a security program installed that reduces the risk of some unsavory character getting into your files. Online casinos are prone to having hackers attempt to breach their security initiatives but these attempts are rarely successful.
A recent article on the online Gambling Kingz web location a pair of Polish hackers were recently jailed after they staged a hack on a unnamed online casino. They were imprisoned in the UK for attempting to blackmail a Manchester based internet casino operator.
Polish nationals Piotr Smirnow and Paatryk Surmacki have been sentenced to five years and four months in jail for demanding that 50% of the online casino proceeds be transferred to them. According to the Serious Crime Division, the men targeted the casino which it was revealed employs 65 people and has an annual turnover of £30 million.
Detective Inspector Chris Mossop of the division that handled the case commented, "With millions of pounds and potentially dozens of jobs involved, Smirnow and Surmacki were playing for incredibly high stakes and clearly knew what they were doing," the Detective Inspector continued to explain,

"They used their intimate, expert knowledge of online business to attempt to bully the victims into submission. But make no mistake, they may have been using the latest technology, but this was simply good old-fashioned blackmail."
Gary Chatfield, the Director of operations for the National Crime Agency, praised the cooperation between the various authorities in a case which led to the first prosecution of its kind.

"This verdict demonstrates the strength of response that those engaging in this type of organised crime can expect," he remarked, "It is an excellent example of the NCA's partnership with the Greater Manchester Police. We will continue to work with our colleagues, both nationally and internationally, to deliver results and interrupt criminal activity."
