Gambling Addiction on Film
I'm a documentary filmmaker recovering from a 12-year gambling addiction. I made a short documentary about getting help and overcoming my struggle, and I'd like to share it with other people who face gambling addiction. It's not for sale, but at some point I'm going to put the whole film online for free to raise awareness about this problem. For now, though, I'm really honored that it will premiere next month at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. I hope that it makes even just a few people feel like they are understood by someone. If you're interested in seeing a trailer or reading about my film, you can check it out at www.lapsedocumentary.com
Has anyone here seen a gambling movie or documentary that they found comforting, realistic, or accurate? It might be good to talk about such films here. I feel like one of the things that will help reduce the stigma and overall judgement of gamblers is if more people express their struggle in art and cinema.
So...what have you seen that gripped you?

LAPSE (2013), 13 Minutes
When
director Jonathan VanBallenberghe turned thirty-six, he realized that he had
been addicted to gambling for a third of his life. He decided to end the problem
once and for all.
His approach to recovery was two-fold: enter into
psychotherapy, and make a documentary about the experience. Using audio
recordings from Jonathan’s psychotherapy sessions, time lapse cinematography,
masks, and other inventive story-telling techniques, LAPSE examines the
fractured state of mind of a person in the grip of a gambling addiction.
