Dear Casino-Free Milford Members,
Please join us tomorrow night
at Milford Town Hall for the Milford Board of Selectmen’s meeting, which starts
at 7:00 PM. We urge everyone who can come early to stand with
us outside Town Hall, starting at 4:00 PM, to hold signs and show solidarity as
we stand together to urge our Selectmen to stop a destination resort casino from
being built in Milford. We invite you to make and bring your own sign if you
can, but we will also have signs available if you can’t.
Please
wear
RED! Our Milford
sports teams wear red, and red has the added connotation of STOP!
When
you arrive, please be sure to sign a petition declaring your opposition to the
casino in Milford, if you have not already done so. We will have volunteers with
clipboards at each door. These signatures will be distributed to all three
Selectmen.
Casino-Free Milford co-chairmen John Seaver and Steve
Trettel will deliver their presentation to the Selectmen
starting at 7:20 PM. You won’t want to miss it—they plan to explain the
reality of what happens to a community in the wake of casino development. Their
presentation includes data obtained from the experiences of the communities
surrounding the nearby Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos in Connecticut, as well
as from other casino projects in the country. Concerns to be addressed in their
presentation include the impact on Milford’s neighborhoods, crime and safety,
traffic, infrastructure, emergency services, social fabric, environment, and
economy.
Help us spread the word about this critical event! Please bring
as many friends, family members, and neighbors to stand with us as you
can!
