Chinese Firm Accused Of Laundering Millions Through Las Vegas Slot Machines: Report

Money Went Missing And Some Think They Know Were It Went

According to The Atlantic, a Chinese company has been accused of laundering more than $60 million through Las Vegas slot machines over a four-year period.

The company ran into financial problems in not long ago and, according to The Atlantic, recently “liquidators now claim that $670 million of cash the company raised in its 2005 [Initial Public Offering] and subsequent equity and bond sales cannot be located.”

One of the individuals involved with the China Medical allegedly tried to clean millions while gambling at the Bellagio and Wynn, two of Las Vegas’ high-end properties.

Naomi Rovnick of The Atlantic wrote:

In past cases, such a technique has involved entering a casino, feeding cash into a machine, playing for a short time and then swapping the remaining credit for a cheque from the casino. The cheque can be put into a bank account and recorded on a tax return as gambling income.

For more on the case, check out the Rovnick’s story.

These allegations come not long after a similarly controversial case involving a former mayor of San Diego, who admitted to losing millions of charity money at video poker.
