MASHANTUCKET, Conn. - Unionized plumbers, carpenters and other workers at Foxwoods Resort Casino say they have been told that layoffs are coming.
The Day of New London reports that the casino intends to cut 77 jobs from its engineering department.
The newspaper, citing union workers it did not identify, reported the casino is seeking volunteers willing to accept a severance package before implementing layoffs. The paper reports the jobs being cut include carpenters, electricians, locksmiths, and central plant workers.
Foxwoods issued a statement saying it is continuing to evaluate staffing to "ensure employees are positioned for success, while also balancing cost savings and productivity."
