Gambling addict stole from his employers in night raid on safe, Derby court told
A "TRUSTED" employee sneaked into his workplace at night and stole almost £1,000 from the safe.
Phillip Meakin took the money from Simply Tiles, in London Road, Alvaston, after using the alarm code to get into the building.

The 41-year-old, who initially denied the offence, had a gambling addiction, Derby Crown Court was told.
Prosecutor James Bide-Thomas said Meakin had denied knowing the alarm code but this was disputed by all the other employees.
On the day his trial was due to start, Meakin, of Abingdon Street, Derby, pleaded guilty to theft of £975.
Handing Meakin a 10-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, Recorder Chris Nicholls said: "At the age of 41, you ought to know better.
"Your employer put a large degree of trust in you, giving you the code for the alarm and safe."
Mr Nicholls said the offence was particularly mean as his employer had already given him a sub of £400.
He added: "Suspicions must have fallen on other members of staff and inquiries had to be made of those other members of staff.
"You lied in the course of those inquiries and lied to police when you said you had no access to the safe and did not have a gambling addiction."
The court heard that Meakin had not admitted the offence until after Recorder Nicholls had indicated that he would not be sending him immediately to prison. "That, in my judgement, shows an element of moral cowardice," said Mr Nicholls.
Meakin must do 200 hours of unpaid work and pay back all the money to Simply Tiles. He was also ordered to pay £1,000 court costs.
