Mass Gambling Commission: Off to a bad start

Off to a bad start

Thursday, May 10, 2012

The gaming industry has a history of being intertwined with organized crime and criminal activity and Massachusetts has a long tradition of allowing politics to trump sound law enforcement — the hiring of Carl Stanley McGee is just another example (“Child advocate groups blast hiring of McGee,” May 9). If the vetting process failed with McGee, how will the commission respond to complicated background investigations of prospective gaming licensees? The Gaming Commission is either unwilling or incapable of exercising its oversight authority and is paving the way for a hard and corrupt road down the path to casino gambling.
