NORFOLK - State Rep. Dan Winslow is calling off his investigation of the acting director of the new state gaming commission after the official said he was stepping down.
Winslow, R-Norfolk, said he had hired a former state police investigator to look into molestation charges against interim Director Stan McGee because the commission had not done an adequate background check before hiring him.
The charges against McGee involving a 15-year-old boy were leveled five years ago in Florida. He was not prosecuted because of a lack of evidence, but settled a civil suit that followed.
Winslow said the gaming commission and its staff must be above reproach because of its sensitive position. Now that McGee is stepping down, Winslow said he will discontinue the investigation.
