Smart people recognize that those with differing views often provide a perspective not consider.

Welcome lively debate on Plainville racino
Saturday, May 19, 2012
To the editor: Re: "Racino foe would take bread off workers' tables" and "Final say on racino plan belongs to Plainville voters" (May 16):
Impressive level of Mary-Ann Greanier bashing in Wednesday's letters to the editor. If I don't like what Mary-Ann Greanier has to say, I don't have to listen or I am welcome to take the opposite position.
Regardless of my position compared to hers on important town issues, I always want to hear what she has to say as she is well informed and knowledgeable on municipal matters. In this case of expanding gambling, if Mary-Ann's call to arms is to ask her fellow townspeople to put pressure on the selectmen to thwart what she considers a threat to the character and quality of life in Plainville, then good for her.
Selectmen should welcome a lively debate from all sides of this very important issue then, utilizing their best judgment, vote and/or negotiate in the best interest of the town as a whole. Mary-Ann, please continue your crusade. I may or may not agree but I want to hear what you have to say.
