Mass. group to host forums on problem gambling

AMHERST, Mass. — The Massachusetts Council on Compulsive Gambling will host two brown bag luncheons for clinicians and others interested in recent research on problem gambling.

The first lunch is set for Wednesday at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Campus Center. "Interpersonal Guilt and Pathological Gambling Among College Students" will feature Geoffrey Locke, an adjunct professor at Smith College's School for Social Work.

The second luncheon is scheduled for June 11 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. Natasha Dow Schull, a cultural anthropologist and associate professor at MIT, will speak. Her new book, "Addiction by Design: Machine Gambling in Las Vegas," draws on research among compulsive gamblers and the designers of slot machines they play.

The luncheons are free, but space is limited and registration is required.
