Steve Wynn is currently salivating to impose another edifice to his ego on the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, in a deal crafted by Bob Kraft and state officials behind closed doors. The Foxborough deal would impose massive costs on Massachusetts taxpayers, beyond those imposed on abutting communities that are prevented from participating in the decision.
Wynn war scares East Side
Steve Wynn is considering buying Teddy Forstmann’s trophy Upper East Side penthouse — but residents in the luxury building fear being caught up in the casino king’s bitter legal battle with his powerful ex-partner.
Wynn has been searching for a New York apartment and has shown interest in a handful of tony pads, including Forstmann’s duplex co-op on East 70th Street, on sale for $36 million. He recently beefed up his security following his acrimonious split with his business partner, Japanese billionaire Kazuo Okada. Wynn has reportedly hired tough former Navy SEALS to protect him.
The Wynn Resorts CEO recently drew new battle lines in his fight against Okada, accusing the Japanese pachinko and slot machine mogul of improper payments to foreign gaming regulators. He forcibly bought back Okada’s 20 percent, multibillion-dollar stake in the casino company at an $800 million discount.
Okada, who helped bankroll Wynn Resorts for more than a decade, accuses the company of breach of contract and its chairman of racketeering. He’s filed a counterclaim against Wynn, denying the corruption allegation and challenging the “purported” redemption of his stake.
A source told us, “Steve handed over his New York apartment to ex-wife Elaine Wynn in their divorce. He is looking at a number of apartments including Forstmann’s, The Pierre and 15 CPW, but he’s not easy to please.
“The problem is, his situation with Okada is messy. People close to the case say it ultimately may not be settled in the courtroom.
“Residents of the buildings he’s most aggressively considering, including Forstmann’s apartment, are unnerved by the situation, and fear there could be reprisals.”
Wynn, now wed to British beauty Andrea Hissom, bought a $23 million pad at The Plaza in July 2010 but sold it less than six months later for $24.2 million. His rep said, “I cannot confirm the information that you are seeking.”
