Another Dirty Little Secret: Slot Barns conceal crimes

Although the item below pertains to FireKeepers' Slot Barn concealment of a crime on their property, a woman came up to me and recounted an incident of sexual assault for which Slot Barn management refused to call police. When local police responded to her call, they refused to take a report.

The known crime wave that accompanies Slot Barns appears to be grossly under-reported to protect the Industry.

As with the tragic death of Sherrice Iverson at Primmadonna or the many cases effecting children and animals, Slot Barns protect their profits and their money, not patrons.

The shining lights and glitter conceal the dangers.

Casino dangers

I have waited a full year to write this to see if anyone else has reported a problem with FireKeepers Casino. Apparently the casino still hides the truth about crimes committed on and in the casino.

In September 2009, my wife and her 85-year-old father left the casino about 1:30 a.m. Before they could even close the car doors, an armed convict on parole jumped into the back seat of their car. The convict told them to give him all of their money or he would kill them. He stated that he was on parole and had nothing to lose. After they convinced him that they were leaving because they didn't have any money left, he left the car, took someone's motorcycle and fled the area.
My wife called 911 and reported the incident. She got a very good description of the man and he was caught a few miles away.
The casino did not want the incident reported to the paper as with other crimes committed there.
To placate my wife and her father, they were each given $25 to use at the casino!
The perpetrator was given 26 months to seven years for attempted armed robbery! Our county prosecutor fell asleep on this sentence. What happened to the automatic two to five years for using a gun in the commission of a crime? And the automatic two to five years for a felon using a weapon?
If you visit the casino, take care. If you have won any money, get security to walk you to your car. Or better yet, use the valet service and have your car brought to you.
A big atta-boy to Officer Pat Johnson of Emmett Township Public Safety department for his quick work in bringing down the suspect so quickly. I've been a police officer for over 30 years and seldom catch the offender that soon after the crime. And a big thorn bush to our prosecutor for not doing her job to keep felons off the street. As a police officer, I would be remiss in not alerting the public about the danger you may face while trying to have fun by giving the casino your money. Be aware, be safe!
