After allegedly stealing 11 chips worth $5,000 each out of a blackjack dealer’s tray, a New York man told the Parx Casino dealer not to tell anyone.

David Joel Blatt told the dealer he was “desperate,” according to police.
The Brooklyn man, who turned 41 Wednesday, turned himself in, along with the $55,000 in casino chips, Tuesday evening, several hours after state police say he took the chips from the high-limit blackjack table at Parx.

Pennsylvania State Police say the theft was filmed on casino surveillance video shortly before 3:30 p.m. The footage showed Blatt, a Parx regular, taking gaming chips out of the tray in front of the dealer, according to a probable cause affidavit. He then left the casino in a waiting car, police said.

After identifying Blatt as the man seen in the surveillance video taking the chips, police called his last listed cellphone number. He answered and told police he knew what they wanted to talk about and he wanted to work out a possible deal with police or the casino.

Blatt agreed to return to the casino, where he was met outside and returned the 11 gaming chips, police said. After he was taken into state police custody, Blatt didn’t discuss why he took the chips, according to police.

“However, he did mention that ‘his mind was mush,’ ” according to the affidavit.

Blatt was arrested and arraigned before Bensalem District Judge Leonard Brown late Tuesday on 11 counts each of theft and receiving stolen property. He was sent to Bucks County prison in lieu of 10 percent of $75,000 bail.
