2 Mass. gaming applicants face deadline

BOSTON (AP) — Two companies that hope to compete for a gambling license in Massachusetts face a deadline to tell state regulators what type of facility they hope to develop.
The commission has given the firms until Tuesday to declare their intentions. They do not have to say where they plan to build, only which type of license they'll pursue.
Mass Gaming & Entertainment and PPE Casino Resorts have submitted preliminary applications and $400,000 entry fees to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. But neither has disclosed whether they intend to seek a regional resort casino license or the sole slots parlor license.

The commission says it needs the information because they intend to first investigate slots parlor applicants, with an eye toward awarding that license this fall. The resort casino licenses aren’t likely to be awarded until early 2014.
