By Sarah M. Wojcik | The Express-TimesA Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem gaming supervisor faces theft charges after tampering with patrons' compensation cards, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Edward E. Weidner III, 37, of the 600 block of Belvidere Road, Lopatcong Township, committed the crimes between Sept. 30 and Oct. 5, state police with the Bureau of Gaming Enforcement in Bethlehem reported.
Police say Weidner was working as a dual rate table games supervisor for the casino. He allegedly created fraudulent entries in the casino table game computer system to increase the compensation credit for a patron by making it appear as if that person were gambling more frequently and with greater amounts than was the case.
The credits were later redeemed for a $2,000 Visa gift card and a meal purchase of about $45, according to police, who did not reveal who received the card or the meal.
Weidner faces charges of theft by deception, unlawful use of a computer, computer trespass and attempt to commit theft by deception, police say. He was arraigned Sunday and released in lieu of $75,000 unsecured bail.
Megan Verholy, a spokeswoman for Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem, said the case is being handled exclusively by the state police. The casino, Verholy said in an email, does not comment on personnel matters.
A telephone message left for Weidner seeking comment was not immediately returned.
